National Library of Armenia Courtyard
The courtyard area of the National Library of Armenia is planned to be renovated, creating comfortable conditions for both library visitors and cultural events.
The priorities for the improvement of the area include increasing green spaces, creating open and covered public areas, and restoring the former water surface.
The project proposes to cover the courtyard area with modular concrete tiles, taking into account the main pedestrian flow directions. As a result of the modular arrangement of the tiles, the intermediate sections serve as green zones. Thus, the green and tiled areas alternate without a clear separation between walking paths and green spaces.
Along the perimeter of the former water area, it is proposed to create a covered amphitheater, the roof of which will consist of a water surface supported by columns. The main function of the amphitheater will be to host cultural events and lectures, but it can also serve as a covered public space for reading. The difference in levels between the amphitheater and the surrounding environment makes the pool visible to visitors. The amphitheater will be entirely covered with tuff tiles.
In addition to the amphitheater, the courtyard area will include benches and covered conversation areas, with the roofs of these structures featuring curved lines, forming pergolas that serve as canopies to protect from the sun.
