Koor Winery
Site and Structure
The sloped terrain played a key role in shaping the project. It allowed us to position the main production unit at the lower end, uniting the entire winery under one folding roof that seems to float above the vineyards. This approach minimized excavation and emphasized the project’s horizontality and connection to the landscape.
Due to the slope, floor levels vary: the production hall is 2.5m lower than the bottling and storage areas, and 2.2m higher than the pantry. A staircase and lifting platform connect the levels (see section 1-1).
The structure is built from repeating Y-shaped elements. In the main hall, we reduced the column height to 6m (vs. 7m in the brief), allowing two columns to be cut from a single 12m I-beam—eliminating material waste and lowering costs. By removing trusses, we gained a clear ceiling height of 7.3m at its peak, maximizing spatial efficiency.
Material and Expression
The project’s identity lies in its spatial logic, not in material extravagance. Standard industrial components—metal frames, sandwich panels, corrugated sheets, polycarbonate—come together to deliver an extraordinary architectural expression.
